I play many musical instruments, such as flute, which I have worked up to a distinction in grade I play many musical instruments, such as flute, which I have worked up to a distinction in grade 8; piano, which I have worked up to a distinction in grade 6; and the saxophone, which I have worked up to a Merit in grade 6. I also play piccolo, clarinet, guitar (both acoustic and electric) Steel pans, and percussion. I was principal flute with Harrow Young Musicians Philharmonic Orchestra and have played solos at The Royal Albert Hall, Barbican Theatre and to HM The Queen, both as a flautist and singing to audiences of several thousand. I have toured Spain, Italy and France with HYM.
My objective
I am taking a year’s break from studying in order to gain experience in the world of work, whilst deciding in which direction I plan to continue. At the end of this academic year I plan on auditioning for the Royal Academy of Music in the hope of further exploration of my greatest passion. I have a place at Lancaster University for 2006 to study Music Technology.
A little bit about me
I am a very competent individual, who works to her full potential. I am very good at communicating with people of all ages, I am friendly, outgoing, and helpful, and will always smile no matter what the situation. I am good at working as a team and individually, and use my initiative to overcome any problem I may face. I may be rather small, but no box is too heavy and no shelf is too high! I am also a film enthusiast, as well as enjoying reading and playing computer games. I like to go out with my friends and socialise.

From an Irish family at the age of seven Sam Millar stood alongside his family performing traditional Pop & Country Music standards of the time. His many Performances, in clubs and pubs prepared him well for what was to become a lifetime love of music.
His first break came in his late teens when he secured a job at Hollywood Studios. Assisting and engineering many hit bands of the day including Georgie Fame, Bill Fredericks of the Stylistics, and Rene and Renato with their No. 1 hit single (Save your Love). He even got time to look after and road show Metal Mickey the children’s robot that had his own Saturday Night series on ITV. In the late eighties Sam had his own first single release: A track entitled (How Do You Know) on the Yellow Brick Road Label with the then owner Allan King whom now reads the news at Sky TV. Reaching the top 20 lead Sam to substantial airplay, and numerous interviews with the press and leading interviewers of the time, like Steve Wright of Radio 1, Jimmy Young of Radio 2 and Bob Harris of Radio 2 and then on to TV with the BBC. It provided Sam with the opportunity to expand his horizons.
Sam’s roots in Pop and Country Music proved an influence on his on going song writing career and in late 2000 he sent a demo of his material to the head of Country Music Radio. From this he met the owner Lee Williams, who told him: “Pack your bags, you’re going to Nashville!”. Nine hours flying time later, overdosing on Shania Twain, a visit backstage at the “Grand Ole Oprey” and three interviews on American TV Followed by endless hours in the studio of which he produced twelve riveting tracks. One of which “She Is Just Too Hot For Me” was released as a single and was subsequently nominated for “Best Single” in the Country Radio Awards 2000, compiled and supported by BBC Radio. The single was then featured on Sky News and Channel 4’s Big Breakfast programme, plus ITV, BBC and a variety of other prominent TC and Radio Stations throughout the UK and Europe. As far a field as America, Australia even Japan got to hear of the country boy from hackney.
When the biggest music publishers of the world approached Sam, Acuff Rose (now part of Sony Music), to sign a publishing deal with him, Sam immediately accepted. Sam’s then manager Jonathan Shalit the music inspirio whom discovered Charlotte Church and now manages Jameila, on his behalf Sam’s songs were pitched to amongst others Boyzone. Sam’s album “Nine Hours to Nashville” was soon to follow and was rated as one of the best contributions to British Country Music and was subsequently honoured with a radio nomination endorsed by the BBC for best album from an indie label. Following an article in the London Evening Standard, Sam was asked to write a score for a feature film, “The Life of Riley” in 2000. In 2001 Sam was asked by EMI for several of his songs to be leased to them. This resulted in Sam taking part in a BBC Television World Music Day broadcast where Sam performed live in the UK including to 10,000 people at the Birmingham NEC for the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ line Dance Event. Sam toured in the UK and Ireland in 2002.
His relationship with EMI has grown in the past few years and he is set to lease more songs to them in their next Country Music released in 2004. Sam continues to write and produce for music artists.
